The time has come: we now know when we’ll be moving to Sweden. Sometimes it still seems unreal; what began as a dream is now becoming ever more concrete. We have made two reservations for the Kiel-Göteborg sea crossing. The first is for April when the house will be viewed and practical matters will be arranged with the owners/landlord and landlady. After that there’ll be the one-way trip on the ferry which is now scheduled for July 15th 2024.

The house conveyance will take place on July 12th. The weeks in the run up to that will be intensive. From time to time, we imagine what it will be like as our house slowly grows more and more empty before we finally depart. Already, each weekend we decide what has to be sold on eBay and what can be given away. Indeed, it is pleasant to be able to do all of that at a relaxed pace. It means that the whole parting process and the necessary considerations can be mindfully done instead of being overwhelming.
Questions that we, and others, often ask are: how we shall organize things with our belongings? What will we take with us? Will we put things in storage? Will we need to hire a removals firm?
After the visit that is planned for April, we should have a much clearer idea concerning the space and what the landlord and landlady plan to leave in the house. (Furnished rentals are common in Sweden). Only then will we have a more exact picture regarding the situation with our various possessions. At the end of the day, there probably won’t be so much to transport. For years we have consciously been decluttering so there should not be so much in the way of large furniture that we absolutely have to take with us. To be continued …
There are, furthermore, a number of other matters that require our attention. We’ve spoken to a financial advisor and have been to see a notary public. In conjunction with our marriage certificate and the children’s birth certificates, we have requested multilingual extract copies from the relevant authorities. Before too long we shall also approach several removal companies to make inquiries about the various options open to us and the cost.
On the work front, Susanna knows that she will soon hear what can be arranged for her when it comes to working abroad for the same employer for a short while. All that we can now do is just to wait with bated breath.
