As already mentioned, within a day of having distributed the flyer in which we made it known that we were looking for a house to rent, we received 9 reactions. That was encouraging! However, none of the proposals fully met our criteria.
After the initial flood of reactions things slowed down but nothing was on offer that really suited us. All that we could then do was wait and hope that something would eventually materialize.
The first weekend of January arrived and, without at first realizing it, the phone call that we had been waiting for came. It was from a retired couple who have moved to an apartment in Karlstad but find it hard to part with their empty house in the countryside. It sounded good.
During the congenial emails following that initial telephone conversation we gradually became acquainted with each other and we were slowly able to form an impression of the house. For them it will be the first time that they rent out their family home. It is therefore understandable that they want to know exactly what kind of a family will be moving in.
At this point in time, we have a pretty good idea what the property and these people are like. They, too, are confident that we’ll be the right people to temporarily occupy their house. We are very happy about this. It is a traditional Swedish build dating from1860 that is situated on a 3000 m2 plot with a perfect view over a small lake. The travelling distance from the school and the nearest supermarket is fifteen minutes which, by Swedish standards, is close!
The house embodies absolutely all that we were looking for in a rented property to start with. This fabulous family home in a lovely environment, situated in a small hamlet will enable us to do what we so much want to do, that is to say: to discover what life in Sweden will be like for us and to see if it will meet all our expectations.
In April one of us will travel there to meet the owners face to face and to organize the necessary practical matters. What do they plan to leave behind and how much of our furniture and belongings will we be able to take with us? Those are the main questions we have.
From all the photos we have received and judging by the google street view impressions we are already getting rather
enthusiastic.
